River's first official word (besides the generic ones: mamama, hi, woof) is "ball." Although she has been saying it for a few days now in reference to Gymboree balls and some play balls at home, today she pointed at the tv, on which there was a soccer game going on, pointed, and said "ball." Fun! I was actually getting worried about not seeing this milestone sooner. Now I'm scared of having a walker/talker in the house! Lol...besides Chris.
Another first: I heard about this thing called Elimination Communication from a mother's group I'm part of. I didn't think it was right for us, and it still may not be...but there was a mother that said her child signed the word for "poop" so she put her on the potty and she went. It was that post that inspired me. I really hate cleaning dirty diapers, and not because it grossed me out (I've got a steel stomach for my child), but because she HATES it. I hate anything she hates...mostly because she makes it hard to do. Anyway, the next time I noticed she looked like she was going to go #2, I put her on the potty with the Dora the Explorer seat and although she didn't go in the potty, she sure did love sitting there like she was on a throne pointing at Dora and the monkey and the flowers. I did the same thing a few days in a row. Again, she did nothing in the potty but loved it.
All of a sudden she was asking to sit on the potty. Again with no results, but I don't care. I'm all for anything that she likes. Then yesterday I took her with me when I went to the potty to go #1(TMI? lol.) which I commonly do. She immediately grabbed the Dora seat and kicked me off the loo. She must have gotten the whole concept because she wasted no time peepeeing! I clapped for her and gave her a hug. I'm not expecting a diaper free day anytime soon and I'm just proud of her for being such a clever girl!
A cool thing: On a whim I emailed White Turtle Casting some pictures of River for a one time spot on Breaking Bad. We, and four other babies got a call back to do a meet and greet with the director. They needed to see how closely each baby resembled each other and at what walking stage they are at. River is the tallest and apparently doesn't look too much like the other babies but was sweet and mellow the entire time and (of course cute) passed their "test" of being able to walk with someone's fingers in the baby's hands. Either way I thought it was cool that we got a call back. I'll try not to be too disappointed if she doesn't get a call back. She's a star at our house! The spot is a flash forward scene in which their baby is learning to walk. They can only have a baby on set for 2 hours of a 4 hour work day and thus they need anywhere from 2-4 babies available to "work" at any given time. So we may get some college fund padding and never see her on screen or she may be a great kid to work with and be in Breaking Bad! I love her either way.
